St. Therese of Lisieux Magnet (Little Flower)

Thérèse was born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin in Alençon, France, into a devout Catholic family. Her mother died when she was four years old, a loss that deeply affected her. At age fifteen, she entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux, Normandy, where she remained until her death from tuberculosis at age 24. Her religious life was unremarkable by external standards—she performed no miracles, undertook no grand missions, and lived a hidden, cloistered existence known only to her small community.

Yet within the convent, Thérèse developed what she called her "Little Way" (or "little path")—a spiritual approach emphasizing that holiness is not achieved through extraordinary deeds or penances, but through small, daily acts performed with great love. She believed that doing ordinary things extraordinarily well, with childlike trust in God's mercy, was the path to sanctity.

Before her death, Thérèse wrote her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, which documented her spiritual journey and her revolutionary understanding of the spiritual life.
