Copyright water marks will be removed from your print on the magnet. St. Gertrude of Nivelles (626–659) — 7th‑century Benedictine abbess in present‑day Belgium, famed for hospitality, prayer, and care for the poor. Folk tradition held her convent was miraculously protected from mice and rats, so she became invoked against rodents and, by extension, against rodent‑borne disease (including plague) in popular devotion. Because cats were seen as controllers of rats, she is sometimes depicted with cats. This association is folkloric rather than an official element of her canonization.
